Design at York: Tech Info

The website is a resource or a guide for YSDN students.

The Challenge

With an additional overwhelming feeling of being a freshman, there are numerous new facilities to be learned about as a student of York/Sheridan Program in Design. There is no walk-through so students have to depend on each other which is sometimes ineffective or inconvenient.

Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, Kirby CMS, Sublime Text, Final Cut Pro

The site serves as a resource for YSDN staff and students. Visitors can find information about technicians and how to contact them, the spaces available to students, how to use or borrow equipment, printing costs, YSDN clubs, etc. The website serves as a guide to YSDN (York Sheridan Progam in Design). In addition to the website, the YSDN technician, Loris and I made tutorial videos for the fabrication lab equipment.

The site-map is an integral part of all website. It is important that the users can find what they are looking for easily. By using sticky-notes I placed and replaced all website pages keeping informational hierarchy in mind. Page names also hold important information like any essay title or book name. YSDN colleagues also helped by giving their input on the site map and page titles. Other elements like maps were also tested for their effectiveness.
